Mildred's - Excellent Vegetarian in London

Lexington Street isn't long by any means but it does house a few awesome eateries all of which are extremely cute, romantic and near impossible to get into. Mildred's is one of those, not only serving delicious and fresh food there's not an ounce of meat or fish in sight… it's completely vegetarian and totally scrumptious!

Miss B, Miss G and I discussed where our evening's meal would take place and because of it being January we all wanted something healthy without breaking the bank and also somewhere new.

About six years ago I was a freelance stylist and Soho is where most of the creative offices are… Mildred's was my 'go to' for a filling and incredibly tasty lunch. Almost always securing a table within no time… come the evenings it's a different story. On this occasion there's now an iPad wait list, busy bar and no seating until your whole party has arrived. So be warned as we were leaving there was a 40minute wait time, but it's most definitely worth it.

Seated we were instantly given tap water (tick!), menu's and told today's specials - a starter, two mains and a pud.

Wanting to see if six years later Mildred's still held the same place in my heart I went for the stir fried Asian vegetables, cooked in sesame oil and plum sauce with garlic, ginger, fresh chilli and coriander served with brown rice, cashews and marinated tofu. It was exactly how I remembered; light, zingy and tasty. The ginger packing a small punch and with the chilli this is such an enjoyable dish I'm pleased I had it again. Being a chicken lover I never once missed meat and could quite happily eat this over and over.

I also ordered a side of steamed gyoza which were perfectly formed dumplings with a crunchy dough fried bottom (truth be told a little over done) steamed doughy top and filed with crisp veg and a mirin/soy dressing.

Miss B had one of the specials which was a butternut squash lasagne with piquillo peppers. It looked incredible and certainly got some beady eyes when coming thought the cafe. She had this with a side of sweet potato fries.

I didn't take a photo of the burrito, however seemingly a lot of people had this throughout the restaurant. Many are regulars and therefore I would generally say that anything on the menu is not only good for you, but totally lip smacking, tummy filling, heart warming and I cannot rate it higher for a meat and fish free restaurant! Us three protein lovers had a wonderful evening.

For a main, side and soft drink our bill came to £20.33 each.
