L'Edelweiss Val D'isere- French Alps

Not many places will serve you delicious and outstanding food in cosy environments whilst still in ski boots, skins and if honest a little sweaty!! L'Edelweiss is beautiful and only accessible by a couple of chair lifts and a beautiful tree lined blue run down. A log fire will be roaring and friendly staff will greet you with a smile.

It's a small mountain restaurant so be sure to book (lines are open on the morning you wish to visit at 9am) and it gets booked up soon after.

The menu is full of delicious sounding treats to fill skied out tummies and specials are served daily. Being the foodie I am I read ahead and knew what I wanted, however being shown the specials my starter choice changed quickly. Iberico ham served along side gherkins (a fave of Mr D's) and warm home made bread- mmmmmm mmmmm.

For mains we both went for duck however in different forms.

Mr D the duck and fois gras burger, fries and a raspberry sauce - my blogging head wasn't on and I forgot to photograph!! It was delicious and looked fantastic!

I had the duck breast, julienne vegetables  and a girolle sauce... The duck was cooked perfectly pink, juicy and plentiful! The dauphinoise potatoes an excellent accompaniment and devilishly garlicky- bliss.

The French do a fantastic coffee 'pudding' called 'cafe gourmand' which if you're an avid reader you'll know I discovered in Paris on a recent trip… Edelweiss's version did not disappoint...

A mini trifle, chocolate ganache tart, ginger cake and chocolate cake accompanied a rich cafe au lait. This was more than enough to share between us both and we both left happy, sleepy and a little bit boozy- they do a mean vin chaud and certainly know their wines!!

L'Edelweiss can be found halfway down the Mangard piste (blue). Our lunch for 2 including wine cost €132 - Not the cheapest so be warned but completely worth every penny!
