Manuka Kitchen - Fulham broadway

Fulham has recently opened some fantastic new restaurants offering the locals perfect 'go to' places on an evening when you don't want to cook.

My parents had visited Manuka well before my trip and loved it. So, on their visit down last week Dad insisted we go. My golfer of a cousin was back from the Asia Tour, and therefore came to stay, so a meal out was in order for a decent catch up befor the weekends antics. Manuka Kitchen certainly didn't disappoint on taste, service and price. For 7 of us the bill came in at a very reasonable £35 per person including 2/3 courses and wine.

The restaurant is tiny, only taking 22 covers however they certainly serve up big bold flavours. The two owners are always on site making sure everything is running to absolute perfection. They set up Manuka with no outside funding (impressive) so this is their absolute baby and it certainly shows it.

Hearing rave reviews, my brother and I decided to have the bone marrow and saffron arancini as an amuse bouche, which is off the 'small plates' menu as a pre starter, these were deliciously moist and packed full of flavour in a light crispy coating.

I chose their 'signature dish' to start, which is crispy squid, cucumber and nam jim (a sweet and sour dipping sauce). Well worthy of their signature title the squid was perfectly crisp, light and the sauce packed a punch and pulled the whole plate together.

As there were a lot of us I won't talk about everyone's dishes however, I will point out some highlights. Mr D went for the Macaroni Cheese starter which got an all round 'yum-factor' and my cousin had 'the best caesar salad' he'd ever eaten! I must admit it did look seriously good...

Onto mains.

I went for the market fish (pollack) with Jersey royals, clams and wild garlic. The fish, cooked to perfection, was incredible and for £14 was more than enough if not a larger portion than I was expecting! A creamy, light broth, like sauce was drizzled around it and a good scattering of clams made this an all-round good fishy dish.

Mr D and my brother both went for the rabbit pasta which was delicious, although a little on the small side for the two boys but that's only if you're hungry! The pasta was perfectly cooked and the rabbit, succulent.

The duck leg was also winner, served with wilted greens and in a delicious gravy.

Some sides were ordered for the table which consisted of fries, smoked paprika and parmesan salt. These were (annoyingly) very more-ish. Also some carrots with wilted greens and manuka honey oil. Again another great little addition as the manuka oil added a lovely sweetness to the vegetables.

We ordered two puds to taste between the table as we were all stuffed. A yummy raspberry panna cotta and a manuka honey and blueberry creme brûlée. Both were polished off pretty quickly, and utterly scrumptious!

Over all a fantastic local which I am extremely excited about visiting again. Their brunch menu is highly recommended, as is booking... it gets very very busy.
